"Dumbbell Burpee Complex"

50 Reps for time of:

Dumbbell burpee complex
(With dumbbells do a push-up, squat clean, thruster complex)

My time: 18:27, w/25 lb dumbbells

This one kicked my butt! I pretty well kept up with B & Dylan for the first 10 reps, but it was all downhill from there. Actually I did pretty well through about 20 reps and then, I gave in to the urge to rest too much. The part right after the push up, where you jump to a squat and then do the squat clean...just burns SO bad, I found myself resting between those two movements way too often.

How in the world do you people push through that agonizing, burning pain in your quads? Can someone answer that for me? Please?

Is it all in my head? (I don't think so...I think it's in my legs.) I mean, it honestly feels like I would actually experience total failure of that muscle if I attempted to "push through" it - you know, just crumble to the ground.

Would I?

Perhaps I should try it sometime and see what happens, eh?

The Devil on my left shoulder says, "No way!"
The Angel on my right shoulder says, "Maybe." *grin*

In other news, I did set a PR today on Split Jerk. Yay me!

  1. When you just feel uncomfortable and want to relax, your mind is talking to you and telling you to ease up. You can move past that. But when you reach the point of feeling total muscle failure, your body is talking to you, and it means business. There is a difference between pushing through your inertial tendencies and pushing beyond what your body can take. When you feel that level of pain, ease off. If you are experiencing that kind of fatigue, be glad - you've obviously got the intensity requirement of CrossFit covered.

Great job on the jerk, by the way. That is a lot of weight!

  2. We call those "man makers", and they suck! Will have to try this WOD when I'm stuck working out at the base gym -- less equipment and movement is better there. :)

As for doing the whole movement without stopping... girl, I know exactly the pain you are talking about! I have trouble just busting through the whole thing as well. I try to just tell myself it will be better to rest standing up. :)
